Whether you choose a vibrant rainbow hue or a subtle natural shade or highlights, hair coloring not only changes your look but also gives you the means to express your individuality. To achieve long-lasting results when you have your hair dyed or tinted, follow these basic rules.

Do:

Choose hair products carefully.

Use shampoos and conditioners without any sulfates. Sulfates and harsh chemicals strip color, leaving your hair looking dull. In addition, because coloring your hair can be drying, select hair protects rich with moisturizers, and occasionally use leave-in conditioners to repair dry strands.

Wait before recoloring.

Hair ColoringToo much hair coloring in too short a time may damage the hair, leaving it thirsty and frizzy. Allow a minimum of four weeks between coloring appointments to enable your hair to recover. If possible, wait longer; six or seven weeks would be ideal.

Don't:

Use heat.

Each strand of hair has numerous tiny plates. When they lay flat, the shaft is smooth and shiny. When they buckle, hair feels dry and looks dull. In addition, hair color stays locked in when plates lay flat and seeps out when they stand up. Heat disrupts plates, so wash with cold water and style your hair without hot irons or blow dryers whenever possible.

Wash too often.

Hair coloring isn't permanent. Every time you wash your hair, your color will fade a little more. Wait at least 72 hours before shampooing your hair if it’s just been treated. After that, try to shampoo it only every second or third day.
