Driver’s license photos are a source of embarrassment for many people. Awkward smiles and frizzy hair often make them less than eager to show the cards to others. After you complete driving lessons and pass the test, follow the below advice to ensure you look spectacular in the license photo.

Do:

Take time to primp before heading out.

Your driver’s license will be valid for a few years before you can renew it and take a new photo. So a bad hair day doesn’t haunt you for years to come, reserve plenty of time in your schedule to get ready before going to the DMV. In addition to washing and styling your locks, also apply makeup to get rid of an oily sheen. If you have a five o'clock shadow, shave it. The stubble could make you appear heavier in the photo.

Get plenty of sleep the night before.

Fort-Mitchell-Kentucky-driving-lessonsEven if you’re a night owl, go to sleep early the night before picture day. This will help you avoid puffy raccoon eyes in the photo. Getting ample sleep can also improve your complexion. That’s because, without enough shuteye, the body releases cortisol. The hormone prompts skin inflammation, which leads to breakouts and psoriasis and eczema flareups.

Don’t:

Be afraid to ask the photographer for a countdown.

As you learned while taking driving lessons, don’t hesitate to ask questions. Once your name or number is called at the DMV, politely ask the photographer to provide a “3, 2, 1” countdown before snapping the shot. This way, you can make sure your eyes are open, and you’re smiling in the photo.

Wear white or black.

If you have a pale complexion, don’t wear a white top in the photo. As the backdrops are often a solid, light color, wearing white could make you look washed out. Similarly, wearing black could also make you look paler. Patterns and warm or cool hues often flatter both light and dark skin tones.
