Many homeowners opt for vinyl flooring because of its wide range of colors and styles, and its affordable price. However, proper cleaning is crucial to ensure your vinyl maintains its quality and appearance. Follow these do's and don'ts to keep your floor looking brand new for years to come.

Do:

Sweep often.

The best way to maintain your vinyl flooring is to keep it clear of any dirt, grime, or grease that can set in and cause stubborn stains. Depending on foot traffic, it's best to sweep the floor every evening to get rid of the day's dirt and dust. Regular vacuum cleaning can also help remove any grit your broom may have missed.

Use an area rug or a doormat.

Don't:

Use harsh cleaners.

If you have no-wax vinyl flooring, make sure you use a cleaner specifically made for that material. Also, avoid cleaning products that contain ammonia, as this can cause your flooring to crack. Instead, use a solution of water, dishwashing soap, and a little vinegar to get rid of grime without damaging your vinyl.

Drench the floor.

When wet cleaning, avoid squeezing excess water from the mop or rag onto the floor. Drenching the vinyl can cause water to seep into edges and cracks, damaging the adhesive that keeps the tiles in place.
