Water jetting is an effective way to clear clogged pipes. The process involves using water pressure to dislodge stubborn clogs. If you’ve been dealing with persistent clogging problems, your plumber may suggest this technique as a solution. Below is everything you need to know about this clog-clearing technique, including how it’s performed.

What Is Water Jetting?

Water JettingThis procedure introduces pressurized water into the pipes to loosen and eliminate clogs, grease buildup, and scale. A trained plumber connects a specialized hose to a water tank, and the pressure gauge is set to as high as 5,000 psi, which is equivalent to 20 gallons of water per minute. The plumber will know how high or low to set the pressure gauge to protect your pipes. This hose is inserted into your sewage line where the 360-degree head sprays pressurized water into the pipe and blasts away stuck-on residue and debris out of the pipe.

When Is Water Jetting Necessary?

This technique is an effective method of clearing stubborn clogs and cleaning sewage lines of buildup. With other methods, such as pouring chemicals down the drain, clogs can quickly return. While these cleaners may be powerful enough to break through a clog, they pass too quickly through the pipes to effectively remove all grease and scale buildup. After a clog is cleared with chemicals, this leftover buildup continues to collect grease and scale, narrowing the space in the pipes and increasing the chance of a future clog. Chemical cleaners can also lead to corrosion over time with repeated use. With water jetting, clogs have to start from scratch to form, as this technique leaves no residual accumulation stuck to the walls of the pipes.
