Allow me the pleasure of introducing Kate Barber.  Kate has been a tremendous presence in the Bomber Crew for over a year.  Kate has an incredible work ethic and shows up each and every day ready to challenge herself and those around her.  Her positive attitude is infectious as Kate is an encouragement to everyone around her.  Kate is extremely coachable and her willingness to learn and try new skills have truly helped her improve her fitness.  If you haven’t made it to a 5am class lately — you need to!  Not only for the extremely motivated Bomber Crew, but you can have the opportunity to meet Kate!

How did you hear about CrossFit and what was your first experience? I heard about CrossFit for a few years before I tried it.  I started when I was on a year long remote tour to Al Udeid.  The CrossFit class was every morning and fit my schedule. When I learned I was moving to Dayton, one of the other members recommended Bombers.

When did you first come to Bombers CrossFit?

August 2018

How many days do you CrossFit?

My goal is 5 days a week, but some weeks it doesn’t quite work out!

What classes do you normally take?

My normal class is with the 5 am crew.  I like the Saturday class as well.

What motivates you/keeps you coming back to Bombers CrossFit?  The coaches are a great asset.  I have been working out regularly for a year with the Bombers team and haven’t had any injuries while also getting stronger and more fit.  I think this is a testament to the philosophy at Bombers - getting the mechanics right and pushing yourself while staying safe.

What’s your favorite thing about the Dayton area?

Coming from the Middle East, I enjoy the cool mornings and evenings in Fall and Spring. I love the myriad of parks and hiking trails and never-ending festivals.

After a hard workout, what is your favorite meal?

I don’t have a regular breakfast or post workout meal - besides coffee.  My favorite breakfast is over medium eggs on top of whatever fresh vegetables I’ve sautéed with and English muffin on the side.

What are some of your interests outside of CrossFit?

Almost anything I can bring my dog to.  We spend a lot of time outside.

What is one goal within the gym that you’re working on?

I can finally say muscle ups.  I spent the better part of the past two years working on the exercises that lead up to muscle ups, but one day Cassie helped me try a full one on the rings which was the first time I thought I might actually be able to do one!

What impact has CrossFit had on your life/lifestyle/level of fitness?

I’ve always been a fit person who enjoys working out with other people.  CrossFit has made that easier and challenged me with exercises I wouldn’t otherwise have tried.  It’s also been a great way to be an example to others.  It’s easy to invite new people to a class with a great coach.

What advice would you give to a newbie?

Don’t give up.  I love the scaling options in CrossFit.  Knowing that age, height, weight, injuries are all just life things we work with every day means CrossFit can be a part of everyone’s lifestyle.
