The large surface area of your window treatments causes them to catch a lot of dust, and they usually aren't cleaned daily. To keep them from getting dingy and ensure they look their best, familiarize yourself with the material and proper maintenance tasks. You can clean them regularly using these techniques.

Guide to Keeping Blinds, Shades, & Drapes Clean

Blinds

Window-Treatments-dothan-alWashing blinds with water can warp wood, plastic, or aluminum, and wetting the dust can make it stick. Instead, use a feather duster, dust cloth, or vacuum cleaner hose to run along each slat, and wipe or vacuum off the dust buildup.

If you have vertical blinds, they're more resistant to dust buildup than horizontal ones. They can be cleaned the same way but won't need it as often.

Shades

Roller shades should be pulled down so they're fully open. You can then vacuum them off. If there are any stubborn spots, a wet rag will take care of them. Cellular shades can also be vacuumed off, or you can use a hairdryer on the cool setting to blow dust away from each fold.

Curtains

How you wash curtains and drapes depends on the types of fabric and embellishments used. They will usually come with care instructions which you should follow.

Between washes, you can dust or vacuum your curtains if the fabric is sturdy. If there are stains, dab them with a wet cloth using a small amount of mild detergent.
