Beyond your pet’s needs in a living space, as the renter, you want to make sure you find pet-friendly apartments with reasonable lease conditions. Does the complex have size or breed restrictions for dogs? How many additional pet fees or pet deposits will you be responsible for?

Sometimes, landlords are willing to make exceptions to a no-pet clause if they personally know your animal. However, don’t rely on a verbal agreement before signing a lease; always get it in writing. Remember, your new apartment is as much your pet’s new home as it is yours. Take the time to find a place that will make you both happy.
