Many people use boilers to heat their homes, making malfunctions particularly disruptive to households. Often, however, equipment will show noticeable symptoms of distress before the final breakdown. If you’re wondering whether your system needs to be replaced, below are a few signs it’s time to schedule a new boiler installation.

3 Indicators You Need a Boiler Installation

1. Odd Noises

Listen for any unusual noises coming from the equipment. It’s not uncommon to hear a rumbling sound when mineral deposits have accumulated in the heat exchanger, restricting water flow. A gurgling sound indicates that there are air bubbles in the pipes, obstructing the flow of water, too. This puts a strain on the system, compromising its ability to radiate heat. If you hear a banging sound, the pump might be broken.

If the boiler is on but the radiators are ice cold, get rid of the faulty equipment. If the burner won’t ignite, the boiler can’t produce heat. The same is true if you have a broken circular pump or a malfunctioning thermostat.

3. Age

Boilers have a typical life span of ten to 15 years for gas models and eight to ten years for electric systems. If your boiler is getting older, opt for a new boiler installation to increase the efficiency of your home heating. While older models are generally from 56 percent to 70 percent efficient at producing heat, modern versions are 98.5 percent efficient.
