Professional teeth whitening treatments are a fantastic way to get rid of stains and discolorations quickly. Unfortunately, no teeth whitening lasts forever, and you probably don’t have the time to visit the dentist every week. While scheduling regular touch-ups is essential, here’s how to keep the effects of your teeth whitening bright and fresh in between sessions.

How to Keep Your Teeth Bright After a Professional Whitening Treatment

1. See Your Dentist Regularly

Biannual cleanings at your dentist’s office can go a long way toward keeping stains, plaque, and tartar from building up and causing discoloration. Getting your teeth cleaned directly before your treatment is also recommended to ensure the solution is applied to a clear surface.

2. Be Diligent About Daily Care

Refrain from using home treatments right after a whitening, as your teeth will be sensitive. However, after a week or so, using a whitening toothpaste or mouthwash can keep those teeth shining.

3. Take Special Care After Certain Foods

While you probably aren’t going to quit red wine, blueberries, or coffee, it is true that certain foods can stain your teeth more than others. Some staining can be avoided by using a straw or adding milk to your coffee. However, the best practice is to rinse your mouth out with water or mouthwash soon after consuming darkly pigmented foods or drinks. This will help remove any coating before the stain sets in.
