Regular auto service will catch hidden issues and keep the engine running smooth. However, with the variety of steps that you have to take, it can be difficult to keep track of when to complete each task. Consider the following guide to ensure your vehicle receives the proper level of care.

How to Properly Maintain Your Vehicle

Every Three Months or 3,000 Miles

Dirt from the engine can accumulate and cause the oil to leave behind a thick residue. Swapping it out will prevent buildup and allow the engine mechanisms to function at their most efficient.

Having auto service experts replace the fuel filter as well will keep the fuel clean and reduce the chances of stalling out on the side of the road.

Every Nine Months or 9,000 Miles

auto serviceDepending on the amount of driving you do, you may want to check the tread on the tires more frequently. Place a penny head-side down in one of the grooves. If you can see any portion of the head, then replacements are necessary to maintain traction.

You should also inspect the condition of the air filter. Tiny outdoor particles can collect along the surface of the material and gradually reduce the air quality within the vehicle. Refer to the owner’s manual to find the filter in your car. Lift it out of its container, and hold it up to the light. If you can’t see through it, then it’s time for a replacement.

Every 12 Months or 12,000 Miles

Brakes experience varying levels of wear and tear after months of use. If you hear a squealing noise when engaging them, that usually means it’s time to replace the brake pads. Also, have a mechanic clear the lines and top them off with fresh brake fluid to maintain the safety of the vehicle.

This is also the optimal time to have auto service professionals check other fluid levels within the engine. Neglecting to flush them out could reduce the engine’s functionality and increase the risk of a breakdown.
