A brand new coat of interior paint can transform your home where you need it most. While modern paints can make the process easier than ever, you should still give yourself additional time and preparation for the paint job to avoid some common painting pitfalls. With a little planning, you can avoid repainting problems which can deter and delay the workflow of your office and its employees.

Common Interior Painting Pitfalls

1. Not Prepping Your Walls

Interior paint will stick much better on a cleaner surface, and the results will also be more aesthetically pleasing. If you don’t take the time to clean your walls, you’ll end up with a spotty, inconsistent look, as the paint will cling to dirt, grime, and flaws in the previous coat. If the previous coat is peeling or flaking, start by scraping or sanding all of it flat. Wash down any soiled surfaces with mild soap and water. Wipe your surfaces down with a slightly damp microfiber towel to ensure that all the soap is removed.

2. Not Using Tape to Cover Edges

It’s essential to mask over any areas you don’t want to paint over. This can include door frames, window sills, flooring, and ceilings. Skipping this step can cause your new paint to cover areas you didn’t intend to paint, likely requiring you to spend additional time removing the paint from these areas or covering it up. In addition, carefully applying tape around the edges of each area will result in neat lines that are extremely difficult to achieve by hand.

3. Painting In The Wrong Order

Fresh paint on the ceiling can often drip onto the walls, so it’s best to leave your walls untouched until later. Make sure to wait until the ceiling is dry before you mask it off to properly paint the walls with nice, clean edges.
