The last place you want to be during cold winter months is stuck in the snow on your way to school or work. Fortunately, there are several easy ways to correct the problem so that you can get back on the road again quickly and safely. Below, towing professionals offer a handful of helpful tips on how to get your vehicle out of the snow.

4 Ways to Get Your Vehicle Out of the Snow

1. Let Air Out

In some instances, it may help to let some of the air out of your tires. Doing so will relieve some of the pressure between the rubber and the snow, allowing you to drive away with ease. However, don’t do this unless you’re near a filling station where you can refill your tires shortly afterward.

2. Clear the Area

towingDig the snow and earth away from the front and back of each stuck tire. Additionally, remove any snow that rises above the ground clearance of the body of your vehicle. Make this process much simpler and more efficient by stowing a shovel in your trunk when you drive during the cold months.

3. Increase Traction

Since snow is slick and slippery, your tires likely won’t have enough traction to successfully emerge from their stuck position. Increase traction by sprinkling salt, dirt, or sand underneath the affected tires, which will decrease wheelspin, so your tires make secure contact with the ground.

4. Call a Towing Service

If you can’t get your car out of the snow, contact a towing company for roadside assistance. This is especially advisable in dark or inclement conditions, when DIY methods may not be safe.
