Your washer and dryer are essential household appliances, and when something goes wrong with one of them, it can throw your schedule out of whack. For instance, if the dryer stops working, you may have to spend extra time hanging up wet clothes on a clothesline. Below are some of the most common dryer repair issues and what they might mean.

3 Dryer Repair Problems

1. Clothes Take a Long Time to DryDryer repair

If you notice your appliance seems to be working properly, but that clothes take much longer than usual to dry, the problem is likely that your dryer vent is clogged. The dryer vent features a metal screen that collects lint and prevents the exhaust tube from clogging. It should be cleaned after every load. If you forget and the screen becomes clogged with lint, moist air can’t escape, and it takes much longer for clothes to dry. The lint screen is often located in the mouth of the dryer or on top of the machine. Pull it out, wipe the lint off, and replace it after each load of clothes. Failure to do this can result in the exhaust vent clogging.

2.  No Heat

On the other hand, if your clothes are not drying well because it won't heat up, this is a more complex dryer repair issue. It could be a bad thermostat, timer, temperature switch, heating coil, or fuse. An experienced appliance repair professional will need to diagnose the problem.

3. Drum Won't Spin

Another common dryer problem is that it heats up but the drum won't spin. This can leave your clothes hot but soggy. In most cases, the problem is a broken dryer belt that connects the motor to the drum. It may also be the result of a bad roller, which the tumbler drum spins on. If the roller seizes up, it could prevent the drum from turning and cause the belt to slip. Call a repair professional to perform an inspection.
