Like oil changes, wheel alignments are a key component of a good auto maintenance routine. When wheels are misaligned, it becomes difficult to remain safe on the road. Tires won’t wear evenly, too, which means you’d need replacements sooner rather than later. If you’re not sure whether it’s time for a wheel alignment, below are a few ways to tell.

3 Symptoms of Misaligned Wheels

1. Pulling

Wheels and axles are aligned to form a rectangular shape. When the alignment is off, it could affect your ability to control the car. When trying to move forward, the steering wheel could pull slightly or sharply to one side. This increases the risk of veering into the wrong lane.

2. Vibrations

Andrews-Texas-auto-maintenanceAlong with pulling, you might also experience odd steering wheel shaking. This is a direct effect of uneven tire wear the misalignment causes. When tires aren’t allowed to wear evenly, they don’t all move in the same direction. Wheels pulling against one another can also cause the steering wheel to vibrate.

3. Squealing

When you’re driving, listen for a high-pitched squealing sound coming from the tires. The ear-piercing commotion can be attributed to the uneven wear due to wheel alignment problems. When the tread is severally worn, the rubber will make more noise as it connects with the pavement. Without enough tread, driving can also be dangerous, which is why you should keep up with regular auto maintenance.
