Aside from being an extremely effective and efficient way of cleaning, power washing can also be fun. However, that means it’s easy to get carried away and want to power wash everything in your path. Not all objects are suitable for this, so to keep your machine away from the following surfaces to avoid domestic disasters.

Never Power Wash These Items

1. Air Conditioners

Parts of an air conditioner are fragile—most notably, the fins. If you use a power washer to clean yours, it can bend the fins, restricting airflow and leading to long-term damage and high repair costs. Clean the AC unit with a normal hose or vacuum cleaner instead.

Power washing2. Windows

Although robust, windows are at risk of breaking if the force of your power washer is strong enough and happens to hit a weak section of glass. Instead, employ a professional window cleaner or invest in window cleaning equipment to take care of it yourself.

3. Paint

If you want your painted surfaces to stay pristine and chip-free, avoid pressure washing them. The force of the water finds any weak spots and pulls the paint away. Using a much lower water pressure or a wet cloth can clean your surfaces safely.

4. Stained Wood

If you’re looking for a fast way to blast off wood stain, power washing is the way forward. If, however, you want your wood to remain stained, keep that pressure washer away; there will be no stain left wherever it comes into contact with the wood.

5. Asphalt Shingles

Not only does power washing asphalt shingles remove the granules necessary for protecting your roof, but it’s also a hazardous practice. You should always stand on level, low ground when using a pressure washer because the force of the water can throw you off balance. If you’re on a roof, it could cause a fatal accident.
