1. Wrap Electronics in Tissue Paper or Linen

Before you put the electronics in boxes, all parts should be covered in clean linen or unused tissue paper. The wrappings will prevent dust, dirt, and other airborne particles from landing on belongings. The grime can collect in ports, plug holes, and other openings. When using the electronics, the particles can cause equipment to overheat and malfunction.   

2. Use Original Packaging 

If you still have it, put all the electronics in the original packages. The boxes are already sized to hold equipment. The foam dividers will keep components organized and provide additional padding. This will keep items from shifting during a bumpy ride. If you don’t have the boxes electronics came in, look for ones that are similar sizes. Go to a crafts or home improvement store for foam sheets to make dividers. After items are in boxes, use durable packing tape to seal all openings. This will prevent the bottoms from falling through when movers pick up the boxes. 

3. Use a Color Key for Cords

Most electronics have numerous cords, which could get tangled together in a box. To make the unpacking and setup process easier, use different colored stickers to keep track of what small cords and wires go to which devices. After rolling the cables, wrap the sticker strips around them before placing in a box or bag. When you put “fragile” labels on boxes for movers, mark the corresponding color on the lid or sides, too.
