Choosing the right siding for your home may seem intimidating. There are lots of different colors, textures, and materials to choose from, including vinyl, aluminum, and treated wood. Here are a few tips to help you choose the right siding for your home.

Siding Types & How to Choose

Vinyl

Vinyl is budget-friendly, available in a variety of colors, and is low maintenance. A thorough power washing every few years will keep it in tip-top shape. Vinyl is also water-repellent. It’s durable and lightweight, and installation is easy. Although you may be able to see the seams where vinyl panels overlap, installers are adept at angling them away from the principal lines of sight.

Treated Wood

sidingTreated wood gives your home a rustic look. It’s strong, natural-looking, and can be color infused. It can also be applied as shingles or as horizontal or vertical panels. Maintenance requirements, which call for the reapplication of clear finish every two to five years, may be concerning to some homeowners. Treated wood siding is pricier than vinyl, but it’s generally less expensive to replace if a piece of the siding is damaged.

Aluminum

Aluminum siding is lightweight and does not rust. When it’s properly installed, it’s completely waterproof as well. It may dent if struck by falling debris and may also scratch. If you live in an area where storms and weather disasters are common occurrences, aluminum may not be the best choice for your home. It can be economically installed, however, and is resistant to pests, including termites.
