A glass tabletop can be the centerpiece of a living room or a stunning feature in a kitchen or dining area. However, they require specific care to stay clean and continue looking beautiful. If you have a custom glass tabletop, here’s how to maintain it.

How to Care for a Glass Tabletop

1. Wipe It With Newspaper

Sometimes, rags, cloths, and other materials can’t achieve a streak-free shine. Since they’re made of small fibers, they trail lint, which leads to streaks. However, newspaper will help. Spray glass cleaner onto the surface and wipe it down in a single direction using a wad of newspaper. Since it isn’t abrasive, it won’t leave streaks or scratches behind. It’s also effective for picking up existing dust and lint.

As an alternative, you can purchase microfiber cloths designed for cleaning glass. Dust and debris collect quickly on glass, so wipe them up as soon as you notice them.

2. Watch What Goes on the Table

Use coasters for drinks, and utilize runners and place-mats when you’re eating. Add a decorative cloth centerpiece to the tabletop for added protection.

3. Clean It Regularly

Custom glass can pick up dust, smudges, and fingerprints easily, so clean it regularly to maintain the glow. Use a homemade cleaner made of two parts white vinegar and one part water. It’s effective and inexpensive to make. Wipe down the surface as needed. Doing so will also remove sharp particles, such as dirt and small debris, that can cause scratches when pushed over the surface by coasters and table decor.
