During the kitchen remodeling process, choosing the right materials is a top priority. For homeowners interested in countertops that are aesthetically pleasing, nonporous, and impervious to mold and mildew, quartz is an excellent option. This low-maintenance material can remain clean and eye-catching by following the simple tips noted below.

3 Cleaning Tips for Quartz Countertops

1. Wipe up Spills Immediately

Spills can happen in any kitchen. As a nonporous material, quartz countertops won’t absorb these fluids right away. However, to prevent stains, always wipe up any spills or excess liquid on your counters as soon as possible. If you notice grease or dried food stains after the fact, use a glass or surface cleaner to remove the mess. Apply the solution liberally to your counters and use a soft, microfiber towel to wipe away the stain. If dried food or nail polish is particularly hard to remove, gently scrape it away with a putty knife.

2. Deep Clean Every Few Months

countertopFor regular cleanings, a soft, clean towel or sponge, soap, and water will sanitize and minimize the risk of stains. However, a deep clean every few months is also encouraged to extend the lifespan of your countertops and keep them glimmering. For a deep clean, spray a gentle surface cleaner generously and allow to sit for about 10 minutes before wiping away with a soft towel or sponge.

3. Avoid Abrasive Cleaners & High Heat

Abrasive sponges like scouring pads can scratch your countertops and eliminate their natural luster. Abrasive cleaners that are acidic and contain alkaline are also strongly discouraged as they can damage the finish. In addition, be sure to use hot pads and trivets with hot pans or dishes, as extreme heat can cause cracks.
