Beach vacation rentals offer relaxing opportunities to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, while enjoying the sun and the water. Although the heat may sometimes scare off the less than intrepid, you can keep your cool while under sunny skies by following these tips.

How to Keep Cool at the Beach

1. Stay Hydrated

Stay hydrated when in the sun to avoid heat exhaustion. Load up a cooler with drinks, and sip them on the sand under a wide umbrella. If you place some plastic bottles of water in the freezer the night before, the bottles become the perfect afternoon refreshment the next day as they thaw.

2. Get in the Water

Spend time in the water to beat the heat at the beach. Even warm ocean water will cool you down and give you a refreshing break. Whether you like to surf, swim, or just lounge, popping in and out of the water is a smart tactic for preventing overheating.

3. Find Shade

Vacation rentalsAn umbrella or tent will provide welcome shade from the sum. A large-brimmed hat, also, is a necessity, or wear ball cap to keep your face out  from burning. Many vacation rentals have umbrellas and other beach gear for their guests to freely borrow.

4. Eat Some Ice Cream

Cool down quickly with a frozen treat. Beaches are sure to have nearby ice cream or snow cone stands. Eating or drinking cold foods and beverages lowers your core body temperature fast.

5. Take Breaks

Don't exhaust yourself by running around at the beach, throwing a Frisbee®, or playing volleyball nonstop. Take it easy when it comes to exercise to avoid overheating. When the sun is strongest—between the hours of 10 and 2—head to a beachside restaurant or back to your vacation rental where you can relax out of the sun for a while.
