As a woman, you may have been in situations that made you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Being prepared for any possibility will potentially help you out of dangerous circumstances, which is why many women take up boxing training. The sport will not only get you into top physical shape but also teach you some essential self-defense techniques.

Boxing Moves for Self-Defense

boxingIf you're attacked, you first want to defend yourself. The footwork you learn in boxing will help you dodge an attacker. If used well, it might even give you an opening to run away.

A boxer’s defense heavily relies on the slip, bob, and weave. These moves let you dodge a punch completely, which puts the attacker off balance and offers the chance for a counter-strike.

When to Go on the Offensive

Your safety should always be your priority, which is why you don’t want to engage the assailant as much as possible. However, if they grab you or threaten you with a weapon, you’ll need to take action to protect yourself. Fortunately, boxing will also equip you with offensive techniques to disarm or momentarily disable them, giving you the opportunity to run away and call for help.

Boxers use punches and engage in close combat, which will prepare you for being face to face with an attacker. Putting your weight behind your fists, you’ll want to aim blows at sensitive areas like the face, throat, groin, or knees.

Take your safety into your own hands by learning boxing from Tessa Moon of TM Productions. She is a skilled female boxer based in Honolulu, HI, with an amazing 14-1 record. In addition to matches, she takes on mentees to help them develop their skills. Visit Tessa’s website to see videos of her in action, or call (808) 291-7817 to set up a meeting.
