Brushing is a foundation of dental care, and you want to do it correctly so that you can maintain a healthy, beautiful smile. Although many people brush every day, some are not aware that they are doing it incorrectly. Here are a few mistakes to avoid to ensure that you are getting as much bacteria from the mouth as possible.

3 Common Tooth Brushing Mistakes

1. Using Hard Bristles

Not all toothbrushes are the same, and the bristles come in several styles that range from soft to hard. Unless advised by your dental care team, avoid firm bristles because they can damage gums and erode enamel when used vigorously. Play it safe by always using soft bristles.

2. Brushing in Circles

3. Using Your Toothbrush Too Long

Every toothbrush has a life span, and the average product lasts about three months. After this period, the bristles will fray and will not clean your teeth as effectively. Many toothbrushes have colored bristles that will fade over time to let you know when it is time for a replacement. If you use an electric toothbrush, stick to the three-month mark, as well, and swap your heads accordingly.
