Feng shui is the ancient Chinese art of arranging objects in a way that maximizes the healthy flow of life-force energy, or qi. Since people spend a significant portion of each day sleeping, feng shui emphasizes bedroom furniture layout. Here are a few ways to arrange the bedroom furniture for good feng shui.

A Guide to Bedroom Furniture & Feng Shui

1. Have a Clear View of the Door From the Bed

Being able to see the door from the bed provides a sense of safety, promoting relaxation and better sleep. The bed should never be in direct line with the door, as this puts it in a the less-relaxing path of incoming foot traffic. Anchor the head of the bed against a wall and not below a window; qi can escape a window and compromise the flow of the room and the satisfaction of your sleep.

2. Create Space on Both Sides of the Bed

If there isn’t enough square footage for space on both sides, consider putting a large mirror on one of the walls. The mirror will open the area from an energetic perspective and prevent an unhealthy blockage of qi.

3. Conceal Electronics

Electronics can upset the flow of qi in the bedroom. Devices represent stimulation and wakefulness and can be a deterrent to a good night’s rest. Conceal electronics, like TVs and entertainment systems, in cabinets or shelves with closing doors. Keep smaller devices, such as phones, laptops, and tablets, in a closed dresser or nightstand drawer. If you have a computer in the bedroom, turn it off at night and cover it with a tasteful piece of fabric.
