It's no secret that moving can be an intense and often stressful experience. When you have a baby, the process can be even more complex. Fortunately, with a little planning, relocating with an infant doesn't have to be a daunting prospect. Below are a few dos and don'ts to bear in mind as you organize an upcoming move.

Do:

Pack all essentials in one, easily accessible box.

Designate one box as a central storing house for all the essentials the baby will need for a day or two, including diapers, formula, pajamas, a few changes of clothes, blankets, bedding, bottles, and toys. Label this box clearly and keep it in an easily accessible place so you won’t need to rifle through multiple containers in a frantic search for what the baby needs.

Unpack the baby's room first.

As soon as the movers have unloaded all of the boxes for the baby's room, start unpacking. The sooner everything is unpacked, the faster both you and the baby will start to settle in and get used to the new surroundings. This will also ensure the baby has a comfortable place to sleep on their first night in the new home, even if the rest of the place remains unpacked and a bit messy for a couple of days.

Don't:

Start packing too early.

movingAs much as possible, leave the bulk of the packing to the days leading up to the move. You don't want to have to rummage through roomfuls of half and fully packed boxes to find items the baby needs. Also, if the baby is just starting to crawl or pull themselves up on furniture and other items, boxes can be dangerous.

Move without help.

Hire moving professionals to streamline the process. Movers know how to quickly and efficiently get your belongings from Point A to Point B. While they handle that, you can focus on keeping the baby safe, happy, and occupied.
