Helping your children develop strong math skills while still in elementary school will give them the tools they need to thrive in and outside of academia. If you get creative, they won’t even realize you’re practicing math at home. Here are some of the more ingenious ways to incorporate math problems into your kids’ everyday life.

3 Easy Ways to Practice Math With Your Children at Home

1. Play Boardgames

Instead of winding down by watching TV after dinner, play some stimulating boardgames. Anything with dice or money will help your children practice counting. Card games can also provide the opportunity to add and subtract, and you'll create meaningful memories in the process!

2. Cook Together

elementary schoolCooking and baking provide countless opportunities to solve math problems, and you can make them as simple or complicated as needed. For example, if your child is just starting elementary school, they can count out eggs for everyone’s omelettes. If you have a student entering middle school, you can use baking as an opportunity to go over fractions.

3. Read Number-Based Bedtime Stories

There are hundreds of children’s books that help readers practice their counting skills. Check out a few of them from your local library, and read them to your child before bedtime. It may take a few nights to find the stories they love the most, but once you do, you can be sure they’ll get excited about counting at bedtime every night.
