Kids are naturally curious and creative. However, sometimes that creativity manifests itself in ways that damage your home. This includes their tendency to draw or color on walls. No matter what medium they choose, you can remove or cover these works of art. At the least, you can have the walls sanded and covered by a professional painting contractor. Here are a few other methods to try if you’re dealing with misplaced kid art.

Kids Drawing on Your Walls? How to Remove the Mess

1. Crayon

If you spot the problem quickly, try adding a small amount of water-displacing spray to the spot, which coats the wax so you can easily remove it. Make sure you only wash the oily substance off your wall afterward, as excess cleaning can chip the paint. Vinegar based cleaning solutions can also be helpful in this instance.

2. Washable Marker

If your kids use washable markers, start by cleaning the area with a wet sponge. Doing so should remove most of it, but there may still be more residue. Next, add a cleaning solution to the sponge or cloth and go over it again until the wall is clean.

3. Permanent Marker

The permanent marker doesn’t painting contractorhave to be permanent on your walls. To remove it, apply a thin layer of white toothpaste over the spot and let it sit for a few minutes before wiping away with a damp cloth. You can also apply baking soda to a moist sponge and scrub the spot until you remove the marker.

4. Pen

For ink stains, apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a damp sponge and lightly dab at the spot. You can also try spraying that part of the wall with hairspray that contains alcohol and then rubbing it away with a clean cloth.

5. Pencil

If your kids use a regular pencil, start by going over their art with an eraser. There may be more left, so go over that with a wet cloth dipped in baking soda to remove any excess.
