You may be surprised to learn that most people aren’t as thorough with their house cleaning as they believe. In fact, despite your home appearing cleaner, you may make it filthier than it was before you started. You should know whether you’re making any of these frequent cleaning mistakes so that you can correct them.

How to Properly Clean Your Home

1. Improper Storage

How you put certain items in their places may be unhealthy. For example, if you stick the toilet brush in its holder right after using it, the harmful germs and bacteria you lifted from the bowl will thrive on the brush’s moistened bristles. Also, consider how you load your dishwasher. Don’t let the spoons stack, and don’t overcrowd or cover one item with another. The water can’t clean them thoroughly that way.

2. Dirty Rags or Sponges

When you do all the house cleaning with the same rag, you spread bacteria everywhere rather than get rid of it. After cleaning a room with one cloth, switch it out with another, or use paper towels in every room. The same goes for sponges, as their pores can absorb and provide homes for germs and bacteria. Heat your sponge or wash it in the top rack of your dishwasher once or twice a week to keep it sanitized, or buy new ones weekly.

3. Inefficient Vacuum

Unless your vacuum stops house cleaningworking entirely, you may use it continuously without emptying it. Also, perhaps you aren’t using the suction attachment to gather up tiny particles, debris, and pet fur or hair. To ensure optimal operation and maximum efficiency, clean it out weekly, and be liberal with the suction attachment.

4. Misusing Spray Cleaner

Like most people, you might spray cleaners directly onto surfaces before wiping them. Unfortunately, this often leaves streaks or spreads the grease around, which will attract more dust or cause buildup over months of house cleaning. Unless the surface is particularly grimy and needs an extra dose of the solution, spray the cleaner onto your rag or towel before applying it.
