You don’t have to be a professional interior designer to create a cohesive interior painting scheme for your house. Following a few standard design guidelines can help you put together colors that not only work well together but also reflect your personal style.

3 Tips to Figure Out a Color Scheme for Your Home

1. Start With One Color

Start with your largest room, and look for its largest pattern, which can be a rug, a couch, or curtains. Pick one color from that pattern as your interior painting foundation. Then think about how to use its varying shades for adjoining rooms, or pick ones that complement it on the color wheel. For instance, those on opposite sides of the wheel like green and purple or blue and orange contrast well. Limit your color pattern to three hues to avoid too many competing colors.

2. Use Ground to Sky Design

3. Choose Accessories & Furniture Thoughtfully

Your furniture and accessories should all support the same color palette. Though it can be tempting to use lots of different colors for interior painting, it’s often easier to stick to the 60/30/10 rule. 60% of the color in the room is for the walls, 30% for the upholstery, and 10% for accessories.
