Finding the right home involves much more than just walking through the property. In order to purchase a property that you’ll be truly happy with and that is a good investment, you need to know some in-depth information about it. Start a helpful conversation with your real estate agent with the questions below, along with your real estate appraisals and inspections.

What to Ask Before Making an Offer on a Home

1. How Much Did the Seller Pay Initially?

Real estate appraisals will tell you how much the property is worth now, but it’s helpful to know whether it’s a wise investment. Know how much the seller paid when they purchased the home. If it’s worth more now, you know that it has risen in value and will likely continue to do so.

2. What Type of Foundation Does It Have?

real estate appraisalsThe type of foundation will tell you whether the home is structurally sound and whether you’ll be paying for major foundation repairs. In addition to knowing the type of foundation, schedule an inspection so you’re fully informed of its condition.

3.  How Old Is the Roof?

The roof is a major system that you’ll want to look closely at with your real estate appraisals and inspections. Know what type of roof it is, when the homeowners last conducted repairs, how long the material will last, and when it was replaced altogether. If it’s newer, ask how the homeowners maintain it so you’re aware of how to preserve it if you decide to make an offer.
