Whether you use it for school, work, or personal web browsing, a MacBook® laptop is capable of a lot of activities. However, over time, it might start running less efficiently. If you’re tired of waiting on a slow laptop, here are a few ways to speed it up.

How to Fix a Slow MacBook

1. Close Applications

Applications running in the background will drain your MacBook of speed. Shutting down these applications will improve performance. To do this, go to “Finder,” “Go,”  and “Utilities.” Select “Activity Monitor” and look at what the top applications are, disabling anything that you don’t use.

2. Clear Space

MacBookWhen you run out of disk space, your MacBook will be sluggish. Under the Apple® logo, click on “About This Mac®” to see an overview of the memory and processor. Select “Storage” and then “Manage.” This gives you options for clearing up space. To free up space on your hard drive without having to delete files, consider using the iCloud®.

3. Change Graphics Settings

Photos, movies, animations, and graphics-heavy documents eat up space, which will slow down your computer. Changing a few settings can reduce how much they take up. If you have a lot of photos, you can remove them from your MacBook and onto an external drive.

4. Clear the Cache & Temp Files

Cache files are temporary data that get stored on your hard drive, such as web searches, websites images, and other information. While the cache exists to help speed up the internet, it should be emptied every month or so to keep your computer running smoothly.
