When it’s warm outside and you’re itching to do something in the sunshine, there’s nothing better than planning some fun tours to keep the family busy. Many activities can be both educational and fun, and so make a perfect opportunity to get the whole family together – grandparents included – to explore some of the local attractions. If you’re stumped for what to do, here are some field trip ideas to cover all budgets.

5 Tours for When the Weather Warms Up

1. State Fair

Fun can’t get much more traditional than at a state fair. Hop onto the helter-skelter with the sound of organ music playing in the background, then grab some cotton candy from a food stall before watching a dog agility show or some of the local bands and musicians. And as the lights come down, huddle together on a picnic blanket and get ready to watch the fireworks.

2. Aquarium

Sometimes it can get a little too warm out, but you can still head to the ocean – an indoor one, anyway. Discover the creatures of the deep at an aquarium. Small children will be enchanted by the fish and mammals that they recognize from their favorite films; older children will love the stingrays and maybe even catch a glimpse of some sharks; adults can enjoy the peace and calm that the big blue brings or maybe learn something new on the many tours aquariums offer.

3. Beach

ToursWho doesn’t love the beach? A stroll along the promenade, locally made ice cream, and the sound of waves crashing all make for a perfect day out to blow away the cobwebs. Most beaches are free, so it won’t even break the bank, and while a beach is beautiful in the summer, you can have equally as good a time with a couple of extra layers in the springtime or fall.

4. Theme Park

A somewhat less educational option (but one that’s a whole heap of fun), a theme park is a full day of non-stop action guaranteed to wear out even the most energetic among you. While easily done in a day, if you can squeeze in an overnight stay, you’ll not only be able to do more but also get to return to any rides that were a firm favorite.

5. National Park

What a way to get out into the great outdoors. National parks are a staple of America, and if you have a free day and good weather ahead of you, grab some comfortable shoes, a rucksack, food and drink for sustenance, and hit a trail. The exercise will energize you, and getting back to nature will make you feel invigorated.
