If you’re missing teeth, you may not have thought twice about replacing them with dental implants. When it comes time to select the type of implant, though, you might find yourself wondering which to choose. While it’s tempting to opt for same-day implants, traditional implants are by far the more reliable choice. Here are some of the most significant benefits of traditional implants.

Why You Should Get Traditional Dental Implants

1. To Minimize Movement

If the implant shifts or moves while the mouth is healing, it can result in serious complications that affect the gums or underlying bone. It’s easier to disturb a same-day implant during recovery because its crown (the visible “tooth”) makes contact with the other teeth right away. Patients can try to avoid moving the device by sticking to a soft diet for several months; however, they still risk jostling the root every time they speak, chew, or grind their teeth. However, since the crown isn’t installed until the root has already settled into place, shifting is far less likely.

2. To Ensure Proper Integration

dental implantsOral surgeons will not cap traditional dental implants until the osseointegration process has been completed. This ensures a stable root for the crown. It also means the entire device will remain a permanent fixture of your smile. Because there’s no shortcut for the osseointegration process, same-day implants are no sturdier than traditional devices. However, since they're capped, they must put up with wear and tear immediately. This can inhibit integration, especially if a same-day implant slips out of place.

3. To Repair Severe Damage

Same-day implants are not our first suggested route for treatment.  However for patients who have a perfectly intact jawbone. As such, they're less likely to have one fail, for those who only have one missing tooth and who only lost the tooth recently. If you have several missing teeth, on the other hand, and you’ve lost some amount of bone over time, only traditional implants can restore your smile because bone grafting will be necessary first.
