While the age and breed of your dog will determine specifically how much of a workout they need, all dogs need exercise every day. However, for dog owners with busy schedules or in poor weather conditions, getting outside for multiple walks a day can be challenging. Here are some indoor games you can play with your pup regardless of the weather or your schedule.

Indoor Activities to Play With Your Dog

1. Create an Obstacle Course

Have your pup crawl under chairs, jump over footstools, or crawl through empty boxes. Familiarize your dog with each individual obstacle before completing the whole course. This can also be an opportunity to practice obedience training and learn new tricks.

2. Play Fetch Inside

dogLong hallways or rooms with corners are perfect for playing fetch. Use a softer ball or plush toy if you have fragile items in the room and move any slippery carpets before you begin. If you have stairs, you can have your dog chase the ball on them as well to get even more exercise. Climbing activates different muscles than walking or running, so incorporate it when you can.

3. Hide & Seek

This game is perfect for families. Have someone hide with a small treat and call your dog’s name. When they find the hider, praise and reward the dog with the treat. Take turns hiding in more difficult places as your dog gets used to the game.

4. Treat Scavenger Hunt

You can also hide their favorite treats around the house or yard for them to sniff out. For small spaces, fill a puzzle toy with treats to keep them occupied. After they’ve eaten all the treats, you can leave it for them to play with as a regular toy.
