Most people want to recycle, but they don’t know what to do if a product can’t be accepted at their local recycling center. The average American produces about 4.6 pounds of trash per day, and less than one-quarter of that trash is recycled. There are lots of unique ways to recycle products, even if they might not have the recycling symbol on them.

3 Objects You Can Send to a Recycling Center

1. Used Makeup Containers

Many women have a lot of makeup products that they bought and then didn’t like. Luckily, several makeup companies will take back their used products for free, and they use them to make more makeup. For example, if you return five empty pots to Lush®, they’ll give you a free face mask, and MAC Cosmetics® will give you a free lipstick if you bring six used or empty products to one of their makeup counters.

2. Electronics

Some facilities will take computers and other electronics and fix them to resell for charity. Search for a business like that in your area. If none exists, Best Buy® will recycle old computers and cellphones, no matter where they were purchased or how old they are.

3. Wine Corks

Even your wine corks don’t have to go to waste. Since natural cork comes from trees, it’s easy to recycle. The organization ReCORK® has drop-off locations throughout the United States, and they turn the cork into footwear.
