Chandeliers are beautiful lighting fixtures that illuminate your home and add aesthetic appeal. But because they are delicate and expensive, it’s important to take care when maintaining this fixture. Fortunately, this isn’t difficult to do. Below are a few tips to keep in mind when it’s time to clean your chandelier.

3 Cleaning Tips for Chandeliers

1. Turn the Lights Off

Electricity makes the bulbs hot, which can cause burns and potentially a fire or electrical shock hazard when using a liquid cleaner. Allow the bulbs to cool off for a few hours before you spray them down. In the meantime, you can gather your cleaning supplies and set up a tarp on the floor to collect dust.

2. Use a Glass Cleaner for the Bulbs

ChandeliersIf you’re planning to leave the glass bulbs in the chandelier as you clean, spray a specialized glass cleaner onto a rag and wipe them down, rather than spraying them directly. This will prevent the solution from touching other metals in the frame of the chandelier. Avoid any cleaning solutions that contain abrasive chemicals, like ammonia.

3. Polish the Frame

Depending on how often you clean the chandelier, it’s likely to have gathered a bit of dust. Use a microfiber cloth to dust the metal and remove lingering dirt and grime. Don’t use any solution; this can strip the finish off of the metal. You can purchase a polish agent to clean the metal and help restore its shine.
