While baked goods like bread and pastries taste delicious right out of the oven, there are ways you can keep these delicacies fresh for a certain amount of time. Whether you’re buying bread in advance for a party or want to have a sweet treat waiting for you at home after a long day, you can easily enjoy baked goods with these handy tips.

Room Temperature Storage

Without the right packaging, pastries can lose their flavor and become stale quickly. Oxygen dries out baked goods, leaving them hard or overly chewy. If you pick up pastries fresh from the oven at a bakery, let them cool completely before wrapping them up; otherwise, the heat will make them soggy.

Once they’re cool, place them in a paper bag, which will keep the exterior perfectly crispy. Then place the paper bag in a plastic storage bag and squeeze any excess air from it. The pastries will stay fresh for up to three days.

Freezer Storage

Serving the Baked Goods

When it’s time to serve your pastries, heat them up in the oven or toaster to bring back their freshness. Avoid high temperatures that will burn the outside of the pastry.   Set the oven or toaster in medium temperature for 5 to10 minutes. Heating them up in the microwave will cause the pastries to get soggy, we don't recommend microwaving the pastries. If you’re serving pastries from the freezer, let them completely thaw in the plastic bag before you reheat them.
