While window contractors have to make sure the windows are spotless before they’re installed, maintaining them can sometimes be difficult. With the right tools and a little elbow grease you can clean windows like the professionals. After the window contractors install your windows, here are a few tips for keeping them clean.

How to Clean Windows

1. Wash

Use a strip applicator, which is a handheld device with a cloth head, to perform the initial clean. Place it in a cleaning solution—a squirt of dishwashing liquid in a bucket of warm water—and clean the window. If the window is particularly dirty, try adding a cup of vinegar to the cleaning solution.

2. Wipe

Then, apply the squeegee horizontally to the top right corner, and wipe all the way down to the bottom of the window. Move to the left and repeat, continuing until you reach the bottom.

3. Dry

Use a lint-free cloth around the border of the window. Wipe as close as possible to the trim, and use a dry portion of the cloth as often as possible. Chamois leather, like the one you use for your car, works well here. It is extremely absorbent and has virtually no abrasive qualities.
