Whether it was from a burst pipe or a flood during a storm, carpet water damage is a serious problem. The carpets in question will hold moisture in for a long time, which may allow mold to grow in your floors. This type of uncontrolled mold growth can have a negative impact on your indoor air quality and may even become a health hazard for your family. Below are a few tips to stop the spread of spores after your carpets have been damaged by water.

How to Fix Carpet Water Damage

1. Get Rid of Standing Water Immediately

The longer you leave standing water in place, the more damaged your carpets will be. Remove the water immediately, even if this means bringing someone in to pump out any remaining liquid. A wet-dry vacuum is one effective strategy to employ.

2. Clear Everything Off the Carpets

3. Schedule Carpet Repair

Once the sub-floor is completely dry, call a contractor to evaluate the carpet water damage and replace the carpet. You’ll likely need to replace the pad and the carpeting itself. The contractor will check that the sub-floor and the walls are completely dry so you don’t have trouble with mold or buckling in the future.
