Your garage makes it possible to protect your car from the elements, while simultaneously creating a seamless entrance and exit for your family during the day. However, to access your garage area, you have to start by installing a garage door fitted with a garage door opener. Here is a little more information about how to program and use the three main varieties of garage openers

Types of Garage Door Openers

1. Visor Garage Door Openers

garage openersMost garage openers come with one or two visor garage door openers, which have a small clip that you can attach to your car’s visor. While these small remote devices may come pre-programmed, there is always a chance you will lose one or purchase a replacement, and be faced with programming a new remote.

To program a universal visor opener, press the “learn” button on the back of your garage door opener mounted on the ceiling of your garage, and then hold down the open and close button on your remote.

2. Vehicle Garage Door Openers

Some new vehicles contain smart rearview mirrors, complete with a programmable button for your garage door. To program these buttons, park your car in your driveway, leave it running, and then use a ladder and press the “learn” button on the back of your main garage opener. Then, go to your car and press the programmable button.

Afterward, test the button to see if it opens and closes the door. Since every vehicle is a little different, refer to your owner’s manual for instructions.

3. Keypad Garage Openers

If you need to create a convenient way for your kids to access your home without a key, consider installing a keypad garage door opener. These systems are typically mounted to the frame around your garage door, and can be programmed by entering the code after the “learn” button is pressed on your main unit.
