10 Things That Require Zero Talent!

The list of 10 Things that Require Zero Talent apparently has been widely publicized. And, you can purchase multiple colorful variations of the list online so you never forget what you are capable of doing (and should do). Nonetheless, many people have never heard of this list and some people, like Tom Gimbel of @TIME, have said these things do require talent.

Whether you believe the items require talent, or maybe that some do, it’s worth reviewing the list and taking a quick assessment of how well you do on each item.  If you spot one or two you want to work on, chuck the rest and focus on those two items.  Small steps in the right direction are better than tepid steps in every direction.

Here is the list, with some extra commentary from me:

  1. Be on Time (5 minutes early is better.)
  2. Make an Effort (See #10 below; they go together.)
  3. Show up with Energy  (A decent night’s sleep helps so try to get it.)
  4. Have a Positive Attitude  (Think “glass half full” as much as possible.)
  5. Be Passionate  (This may not come easily but, when you have it, the rest is easy.)
  6. Use Good Body Language (E.g., smile, don’t slouch, have a solid handshake, and maintain good eye contact.)
  7. Be Coachable (Most people are so take advantage of it.)
  8. Do a Little Extra Beyond What is Required (It doesn’t have to be a lot.)
  9. Be Prepared  (This is a really good way to boost your confidence.)
  10. Have a Good Work Ethic (It will show up quickly if you don’t.)

If, after reading this list, you conclude you are just too unmotivated or uninspired to do anything on it, then maybe you need a break or a #careercoach or a chance to recalibrate accomplishments into smaller bites. There isn't a quick fix when you feel burned out or unmotivated. But, there are things you definitely can do other than cry, slack off or quit. @TimHerrera What to Do When You Feel Uninspired at Work - The New York Times http://bit.ly/BurnoutBreak
