From going to the beach to visiting amusement parks, your family’s summer schedule might be jam-packed with fun outings. To help your youngster avoid lost academic knowledge throughout the summer, you should also include education-based kids’ activities on the agenda. Otherwise, the months spent away from their learning centers can contribute to knowledge loss, leaving your child ill-prepared for the challenges of a new school year. To boost their brainpower for the fall semester, follow the below advice.

3 Strategies to Prevent Summer Learning Loss

1. Review Difficult Subjects

kids' activities Whether your child struggles with math or has difficulty with science, don’t let these problems follow them into the new school year. To refresh your youngster’s memory, and reinforce what they’ve learned, brush up on difficult subject matter over the summer. Cover the answers on old assignments so that your child can work out the problems again. You can also find worksheets, practice quizzes, and kids’ activities online that cover their school’s curriculum.

2. Make Reading a Part of the Regular Routine

When looking for kids’ activities that allow your youngster to expand their imagination, arrange for regular trips to the library. They can check out a new book each week to read at home. Doing so will improve their reading comprehension and vocabulary skills, too. Libraries also offer onsite events, youth reading groups, and other programs to get kids excited about reading.

3. Hire a Tutor

To help your child strengthen their mental muscles, consider enlisting professional help. At a tutoring center, a skilled instructor can go over English, math, and other core subjects with your youngster one on one. This means your child can learn at their own pace, fully understanding one concept before progressing to the next. A tutor can also provide study tips and test-taking strategies to help improve your child’s report card.
