Whether you live in a dry area or have an intricate garden you need to upkeep, irrigation helps achieve your landscaping goals. Sprinklers, however, need maintenance just like any other home appliance. Here are three maintenance tips that can help your irrigation system function more efficiently and effectively.

Understanding Sprinkler Maintenance

1. Keep the Controller Updated

Controllers are subject to abuse from power surges, outages, and curious kids. Although you may assume that it’s functioning properly, inspect it on occasion. Check the date and time settings, and adjust them if watering happens on the wrong days or if any zones are being watering improperly.

2. Clean Out Main & Secondary Filters

In addition, each sprinkler head has a small filter to trap dirt and mud. Before a new watering season starts, clean water filters. If you experience issues with faulty watering, the filters may need cleaning or replacement.

3. Check Spray Patterns Regularly

To make sure your lawn and garden are getting adequate water coverage, turn your sprinklers on manually to observe spray patterns. Look for areas of your lawn and garden that aren’t getting water, and adjust your sprinkler settings accordingly.
