Taking care of your classic car ensures you have both a memorable showpiece and a dependable vehicle for years to come. Fortunately, some small steps are all that's typically necessary to care for a restored automobile and reduce the chances of needing classic car repair. Follow the three precautions below for a mint condition vehicle.

How to Attend to a Vintage Automobile

1. Check Fluid Levels

classic car repairWhether you take the car out for regular drives or only for an occasional spin, check for old or low fluid levels. Low or old oil, transmission fluid, radiator fluid, or brake fluid can cause failures within those systems. As a general rule, you need to check, or take your classic car every six months to have fluid levels checked and maintained.

2. Store It Smartly

Storing a classic car in a damp garage can cause parts to rust and encourage mold growth on the interior. If your garage is damp, use a dehumidifier to remove the moisture from the air. Also, keep the windows of the vehicle rolled down slightly, which promotes healthy airflow and lowers the risk of mold and musty odor.

3. Make It Shine

Dirt, salt, and sand can damage your cars finish resulting in nicks and scratches. Debris can also get into the undercarriage, causing rust and corrosion requiring a classic car repair professional’s attention. Wash your car at least every three months—inside and out—and apply wax or paint sealants to maintain the finish and protect surfaces from the elements.
