After talking to several families throughout the weekend, I felt compelled to touch base with everyone on what is happening within Leaps of Love!

First off, thanks to everyone that came out and participated in the Leaps of Love & Nicci Egbert Night At The Races!  The day was filled with love and laughter and GREAT racing to end our day and yet another GREAT day at Core Elite to bounce out some left over energy.  WOW, we are still on cloud 9 from that weekend!

Next, we are excited to announce that LOL will be making a few changes to our Share Your Love Program (Holiday adoptions).  Due to families struggling throughout the year, we will be ‘adopting’ a family each quarter.  This could be a new family on the cancer journey or a family that is currently going through treatment again and needs our help!

Currently we are working with a single mother of 4 girls.  They have been referred to St. Jude’s in Memphis for further treatment of the 3 yr. old with a brain tumor, AT/RT.  Many expenses are taken care of through St. Jude’s but there are a few things WE could help them with.

Gift Cards for gas is always a great way to help.  They are also in need of clothing – NEW or USED for the following sizes:

13 yr. old female – shirt, L adult; bra, 36; pant, 9; panty, 14/16; shoe 9 wide (women)

11 yr. old female – shirt, L adult; bra, M (sports bra); pant, 14/16; panty, 14/16; shoe 10 (women)

12 yr. old female – shirt, XL adult, bra, 38D or XL sports bra; pant, XL legging or sweat pant; panty, XL; shoe 13 (women)

3 yr. old female – shirt, 4T, pant 4T, shoe 9

mom – shirt, 2X; pant, 2X shoe 10 wide

All donations are tax deductible and you can call to make arrangements for pick up.

LOL Fall Family Weekend Retreat – this retreat is for families that are currently going through late-effects from their treatment or are at a higher risk of late-effects in the future.  This is a FREE weekend for the families and we are currently working on donations to help with our expenses.  Donations of individual snacks, juice, and meal sponsors are greatly appreciated or any monetary donation to help with off set expenses.  Together, WE can make a memorable weekend for the families we serve.

Good Grief Getaway – this years weekend getaway is focusing on mothers who have lost their child to a rare brain tumor DIPG.  Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma is a type of tumor that starts in the brain stem and connects to the spine and leaves kids mentally in tact but steals essential bodily functions over time as the tumor grows, such as vision, chewing, swallowing, walking, and breathing.  The survival rate for DIPG is very low and usually takes the child within 18 months of diagnosis.
