Using a computer all day can have negative consequences on your body. This often results in tech neck pain, a condition that causes discomfort and stiffness and is a modern consequence of regular computer usage. The following tips help prevent these neck issues after a day in front of the screen.

Do:

Position the screen at eye level

Your monitor’s position can impact the health of your neck and back. When a monitor is positioned low to the desk, you’ll need to lower your head to view it. This quickly leads to neck pain, especially when spending long times on the computer. Raise your monitor so that it’s level with your line of vision. Also, make sure your keyboard is within a comfortable reach.

Get up from your desk every so often

neck painBreaks are a must for office workers. Every two hours or so, get up from your desk and take a walk around the building. Walking helps you exercise and the breaks help you stretch the muscles in your neck and back.

Don’t:

Forget to stretch your neck

In addition to breaks, take a moment to stretch about every twenty minutes. One way to stretch is by standing and lifting your arms over your head. You can also twist your body from side to side before taking a seat.

Neglect your posture

Correct posture when sitting is a must to reduce pain and discomfort. Lean your shoulders straight against the chair, with your neck and lower back properly supported. If your office chair is uncomfortable or lacking in back or neck supports, talk with your manager about an upgrade.
