When your child starts preschool, it is completely normal for both of you to miss each other. As they continue growing, developing, and learning new skills, find different ways to connect and enjoy a close relationship. The guide below suggests bonding activities that can be worked into even the busiest of schedules.

4 Activity Suggestions for You & Your Preschool-Age Child

1. Spend 10 Minutes Talking About Your Day

Make a habit of spending one-on-one time with your little one as soon as they are finished with preschool for the day or you arrive home from work. Ask specific questions such as what projects they worked on, what kids they played with, or what stories were read to them. Not only does this demonstrate care and interest, but also can help keep their memory sharp.

2. Draw & Color

Find craft projects to do with your preschool-age child, even if it’s something simple, such as filling in a coloring page to hang on the refrigerator. Freelance drawing can also give you insight into your student’s emotions—a technique many child psychologists use. In the meantime, this hobby can encourage creative thinking and the development of fine motor skills.

3. Explore Nature

preschoolGet outside with your preschooler, whether it’s in your own backyard, a nearby park, or a botanical garden. Talk about what you see, such as the birds in the trees and the different types of flowers. Let them touch fallen leaves or acorns as you emphasize the importance of respecting nature—including showing kindness and respect to living creatures and not littering.

4. Have a Dance Party

Put on silly songs and come up with dance moves that make each other laugh. Get the whole family in on the dance party, as even “moody teenagers” may want to let out their inner goof. Dancing also releases tension and stress while promoting exercise and staying active.
