The exhaust system of a car filters and routes emissions from the engine to the rear of the vehicle. Because it’s one of the hardest working systems in your car, it takes a lot of wear and tear. It’s important to seek auto repairs when this system isn’t running correctly.

When Do You Need Exhaust Repairs?

1. Loud Engine Noise

A problem with the exhaust will usually cause loud rumblings but can also cause ticking and clicking. This is generally a leak in the manifold, which can also let harmful fumes into the inside of the car, putting you and any passengers at risk. Make sure to go to an auto repair shop if you experience this issue.

2. Vibrations

However, if the leak is big enough, you can feel them through the whole car. Vibrations can also be a sign that the engine isn’t running at its peak performance.

3. Decreased Fuel Efficiency

When the exhaust system leaks, your engine has to work harder, making you use more gas. If you have a leak, fumes from your engine are not being carried away, which causes the engine to run at a higher temperature, which also decreases fuel efficiency. If you notice this issue, have a mechanic at an auto repair shop look at your car right away before the issue gets worse.
