It is normal to experience a little discomfort after wisdom tooth removal, but there are plenty of steps you can take before and after the procedure to help you recover quickly. Here are a few useful tips to know if you or a loved one needs wisdom tooth removal.

How to Recover From Wisdom Tooth Removal

1. Rest

2. Rinse With Saltwater

You should rinse your mouth with saltwater at least two to three times a day, beginning the day after the procedure. The salinity will promote healing and remove bacteria, keeping your mouth clean.

3. Use Gauze

Further bleeding may occur up to 48 hours after surgery, and your dental team will give you gauze packs to stop the bleeding. Gently bite down on the gauze to put pressure on the wound and stem the bleeding.

4. Eat Well

After the surgery, eat whatever you can tolerate. Since your body is recovering, it is important to eat, even if you do not feel like it, to provide your system with nutrients. Eating will also encourage mobility of the jaw which will help reduce the swelling thus decreasing the discomfort.
