Motor vehicles generate heat regardless of the temperature outside. However, overheating becomes more of a possibility during the hot summer days. To avoid breaking down during your summer travels and having to call an auto mechanic from the side of the road, keep the following tips in mind.

3 Tips to Avoid Your Car Overheating This Summer

1. Check Coolant Levels

Coolant is responsible for absorbing heat generated by the engine. Your auto mechanic can explain the proper coolant ratio for your vehicle and show you how to top off this fluid as needed during the summer months.

2. Remain Calm in Traffic

auto mechanicDriving aggressively is a surefire way to make the engine work harder. For example, braking suddenly and accelerating quickly will make a hot engine even hotter. Though it’s hard to remain calm in stop-and-go traffic, doing so will prevent your car from overheating.

3. Roll Down the Windows

When it’s not unbearably hot outside, turn off the AC and roll down the windows instead. Doing so conserves energy, thereby reducing the amount of heat your engine produces. If you ever notice the temperature gauge rising to a troublesome level though, turn on the heat. In such a scenario, you want to draw heat away from the engine.
