Once you’ve hired professional painters to help you with an interior painting job, you may wonder how to make the process go as smoothly as possible. Fortunately, every painter appreciates the few preemptive actions below. In addition to these tips, ensure you contact the painting contractor well in advance to see if there’s anything else you can have ready when they arrive.

How to Get the House Ready for Professional Painters

1. Clear the Space

Move furniture away from the walls or out of the room altogether. Not only does this keep the interior painters from having to work around obstacles, but it ensures your furniture is safe from stray paint splatters. Also, remove everything hanging on or fastened to the walls, such as curtains, clocks, pictures, and electrical covers. This permits a thorough interior painting job while keeping your items clean.

2. Protect What You Can’t Remove

Lay butyl-backed drop cloths over the floor to prevent paint from staining it. If any furniture remains in the room, wrap it in lightweight plastic, which is waterproof and easy to shape. For windows, doors, trim, and light fixtures, cover them with green or blue painters’ tape, which is more water-resistant than regular masking tape.

3. Deep Clean the Walls

Use a damp cloth or sponge and soft soap to remove grease, grime, and dust from the walls, then go over them again with plain water to rinse the soap. Allow time for the wall to dry before your painting contractor comes. Also, if you notice rotting wood or rusting metal, have it fixed by a professional.

4. Keep Everyone Out

Interior painting isn’t unsafe, but it’s messy, even for professionals. Ensure that any kids, adults, and pets who live in your home stay busy in other rooms or out of the house entirely for the duration of the job. This way, everyone and everything remains as clean as possible once the house painting is finished.
